The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday said that India witnessed a single-day increase of 625 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest since April 9, 2020, and that no deaths were reported in a 24-hour period for the first time since March 2020. A total of 540 new cases were reported in one day on April 9, 2020.

According to ministry data updated at 8 am, the number of infections in the nation has increased to 4,46,62,141, while the number of active cases has decreased to 13,187. The number of fatalities from COVID-19 is still 5,30,514. The data also mentioned that the current positivity rate in the country stands at 0.03 per cent, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.78 per cent.

The total number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 4,41,20,267, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent. India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh-mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16 and surpassed the one crore-mark on December 19. The data from World Health Organisation shows that the daily active case load in India in last twelve days has remained below the mark of 2000. The highest number of cases in last fifteen days were reported on October 28, 2022. The day reported 2,208 cases. But later there was dip in daily COVID cases in the country. India reported the lowest number of COVID-19 cases on November 8, 2022. Only 625 new cases were reported, lowest since April 9, 2022. One of the reason behind the dip in active case load is the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme. As of November 10, 2022, around 219.76 crore doses of the vaccination have been administered in the country.

Currently, Kerala (2516), Assam (2552), Karnataka (1828) and Maharashtra (1320) have the highest number of active cases in the country.

The country has been witnessing a dip in its active case load for a long time, thanks to the persistent efforts of the central government, state governments and other agencies. Experts had predicted of a fourth wave of COVID-19 in India, but the efforts of all the stakeholders ensured that such a situation would not arise. The government’s vaccination programme has also been a major contributor in the decline of active cases in the country. Overall, it is safe to say that the country is on a safer side for now.
