In a private school in Rajasthan's Jalore district, a nine-year-old Dalit kid died on Saturday after allegedly being assaulted by a teacher for touching a drinking water pot. On July 20, the incident happened at a private school in Surana village, Rajasthan's Jalore district. Indra Meghwal, the injured child, was transported to an Ahmedabad hospital for medical attention. But on Saturday, while receiving treatment, he passed away in the hospital, according to police officials. The teacher Chail Singh has been arrested and charged with murder and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The internet was also suspended in the areas to prevent the situation from escalating. In a letter to the district magistrate, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) stated that the situation is grave and asked for copies of the FIR, action taken by the administration against the accused and a transcript of the action taken by the police administration within seven days.

Post his death, asserting that he had "no moral right" to remain in the government following the incident, a Dalit MLA of the ruling Congress submitted his letter of resignation to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday. Besides attacks from the Opposition BJP, the Ashok Gehlot government is also facing the heat from within its ranks as the issue has sparked a congress Vs congress war in the state. Around 20-25 people thrashed 50-year-old Chiranji Lal Saini, a vegetable vendor in Rajasthan's Alwar who died while being treated at a Jaipur hospital. Local residents blocked roads demanding justice and compensation for the aggrieved family members. They demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a job to the kin of the victim. The body was finally cremated after the family agreed for post-mortem after assurances from the district administration.
