It will be very interesting to see that Britain, which ruled India for 200 years in an immoral way, can now be ruled by an Indian origin democratically.
Rishi Sunak has won the first race to become the next leader of the Conservative Party and British Prime Minister. In the first elimination round held yesterday, Rishi Sunak stood first with 88 votes. Eight contestants needed at least 30 votes to advance to the next round, which two candidates (Nadhim Zahawi and Jeremy Hunt) could not collect and were eliminated from the race. Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt came second with 67 votes, and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss came third with 50 votes. The next round is on July 14 (today). After the various stages of Tory leadership vote, there will be two candidates left in the end. To make one of these new leader of the conservative party, around 1,60,000 Tory members decide which candidate they want to become the next party leader and prime minister.
Pincher scandal is responsible for the sudden search for a new prime minister in Britain. Actually, in February this year, Chris Pincher was appointed Deputy Chief Whip. On June 30, 'The Sun' claimed in a report that Pincher had touched two youths in a club in an objectionable manner. Just after this, the opposition as well as the people of the Conservative Party turned against Boris Johnson and asked for an explanation. Party members alleged that, despite PM Boris Johnson's knowledge, Pincher was appointed deputy chief whip. On July 1, the official spokesperson clarified that the PM was not aware of this. But three days later, on July 4, a statement came that the Prime Minister was aware of the allegations against Pincher. But it did not feel right to postpone the appointment because of the allegations as he has not been proved guilty yet.
From July 5, even for Boris Johnson, the situation had become like that of Uddhav Thackeray. About 40 ministers, including 4 cabinet ministers, had resigned. Seeing the increasing pressure, PM Johnson also had to vacate 10 Downing Street, just like Uddhav Thackeray had to vacate Varsha Bungalow. Rishi Sunak, who started the protest by resigning like Eknath Shinde, is now running at the forefront of the race for the post of Prime Minister.
Rishi Sunak is a British citizen of Indian origin. His parents were from Punjab. Rishi is also the son-in-law of Narayan Murthy, the co-founder of Indian software company Infosys. That is why Indians aspire for Rishi to become Britain's Prime Minister. Anyway, it will be very interesting to see that Britain, which ruled India for 200 years in an immoral way, can now be ruled by an Indian origin democratically.
