CVoter Snap Poll: Income Maybe Rising but Public Not Satisfied

The proportion of respondents believing ₹50,000–₹100,000 was necessary grew substantially, rising from 15.8% in 2010 to 26.0% in 2025.

CVoter Snall Poll on Budget 2026 reflects changing public perceptions of the monthly income required for an "average" quality of life for a family of four from 2010 to 2025. In 2010, a significant portion (17.8%) believed that up to ₹20,000 was sufficient, but this perception declined sharply over time, dropping to just 4.5% in 2025. Meanwhile, the proportion of respondents believing ₹50,000–₹100,000 was necessary grew substantially, rising from 15.8% in 2010 to 26.0% in 2025. Similarly, those who considered more than ₹100,000 essential saw an increase from 7.4% in 2010 to 12.6% in 2025, reflecting inflationary pressures and rising living costs.

The middle-income brackets (₹30,000–₹50,000) showed fluctuations, peaking at 35.4% in 2013 before declining, while the ₹40,000–₹50,000 category saw a resurgence post-2022. The trend indicates a growing consensus that higher income is required to maintain an average standard of living, particularly after 2020. This shift likely correlates with rising inflation, increased cost of essential services, and changing economic conditions, reinforcing the perception that lower income levels are no longer adequate to sustain a family comfortably.

The data reflects changing perceptions of the required monthly income for an "average" quality of life for a family of four from 2010 to 2025. The values fluctuate over the years, with noticeable declines in 2012, 2018, and 2019, indicating periods of reduced cost expectations. However, a sharp increase is observed from 2020 onward, reflecting rising living costs. The most significant jumps occur post-2021, with 2024 and 2025 showing the highest values at ₹60,326 and ₹61,013 per month, respectively. The tax-free annual income required follows a similar pattern, increasing from ₹565,000 in 2010 to ₹730,000 in 2025. The trend suggests growing economic concerns and inflationary pressures, especially post-pandemic, influencing people's expectations of a comfortable living standard.
