Pakistan is currently going through its one of the worst humanitarian crisis in its history. Pakistan is witnessing its worst floods this century, with rivers overflowing their banks, flash flooding, and glacier lakes bursting. At least one-third of the country is flooded.
Pakistan is currently going through its one of the worst humanitarian crisis in its history. Pakistan is witnessing its worst floods this century, with rivers overflowing their banks, flash flooding, and glacier lakes bursting. At least one-third of the country is flooded. Several elements, according to scientists, have contributed to the severe catastrophe, which has displaced 33 million people and killed over 1,200 people. According to researchers, the disaster was most likely triggered by unprecedented heat waves. Temperatures in numerous places exceeded 40 degrees Celsius for extended periods in April and May.
While Europe, China, and other parts of the world are suffering from severe droughts, Pakistan is experiencing one of the deadliest floods in its recent history. According to reports, the flooding has hit approximately 110 of the country's 150 districts. The WHO has declared Pakistan's worst floods on record as a "high level" emergency, warning of a rapid spread of disease due to a lack of access to medical care. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan, around 1100-1200 people have lost their lives due to the floods and out of those dead, 400 are children. Pakistan’s meteorological department observed that 2022 is the wettest year since 1961. A daily assessment report released by the NDMA, Pakistan on 1st September shows that the provinces of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan are the worst affected provinces due to the floods. Around 4,72,000 people are staying in rehabilitation camps across different parts of Pakistan.
Keeping in view the horrible floods in Pakistan, a bunch of countries around the world have offered help and assistance. Pakistan has received assistance from China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries. This week, the United States also announced a $30 million help package for flood victims. Earlier this week, the UN and Pakistan issued a joint appeal for $160 million in emergency funds to assist the 3.3 million people affected by floods that have destroyed over 1 million homes.
Taking into consideration the assistance offered by different countries to Pakistan and India’s assistance to Sri Lanka to combat its worst economic crisis in the history, TEAM CVOTER- INDIA TRACKER recently conducted a survey in which people from different locations, social backgrounds, ethnicities, voting preferences and age groups were asked, “Pakistan has been hit by unprecedented floods. Do you think India should provide the help the way it has done with Sri Lanka?’

Majority of the people in India are not in favor of providing any kind of help or assistance to Pakistan. Around 57% of the total respondents are against the notion and are of the opinion that there should be no assistance in any form from India to Pakistan. While 43% of the respondents are of the view that India should provide assistance to Pakistan during its one of the worst humanitarian crisis.

Out of all the people belonging to different gender, age groups, social backgrounds and ethnicities, locations and voting opinions, the Sikhs responded strongly with the highest percentage of ‘No’ as 99.8% of them are of the view that there should be no help from India to Pakistan. On the other hand, majority of Muslims and Christians as 77% Muslims and 76% Christians are of the opinion that India should provide help and humanitarian assistance to Pakistan to combat one of the worst disasters in its history. Coming over to youth, majority of them (55.5%) feel that India should help Pakistan. Talking about the voting preferences, 53.5% opposition voters and 61% NDA voters are against providing any help and assistance to Pakistan.
