Leading milk suppliers Amul and Mother dairy have increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre with effect from 17th August 2022 on the account of rising input costs. This is the second hike by Mother dairy and Amul in just six months. Both the milk giants had increased the price of milk by Rs. 2 per litre in March. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Market Federation (GCMMF) which sells milk and other dairy products under the banner of Amul brand said on Tuesday that it has decided to increase the milk prices by Rs. 2 per litre in Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad and Saurashtra of Gujarat, West Bengal, Mumbai and other markets from August 17. The GCMMF further stated that the hike means a 4% increase in MRP which is lower than the average food inflation. The prices have been hiked due to an overall increase in cost of operation and production of milk. The cattle feeding cost has also shot up by 20% compared to last year.
The new price of Amul Gold is Rs 31 per 500 ml, Amul Taaza- Rs 25 per 500 ml, and Amul Shakti- Rs 28 per 500 ml. For Mother Dairy, full-cream milk costs Rs 61 per litre from yesterday, up from Rs 59 per litre. In March also, Mother Dairy had increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in the Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region). Additionally, some major milk-producing regions like Gujarat have observed an upsurge in the number of cattle infections as a result of the continuous rain. Gujarat's lumpy skin disease has become a serious issue, which has had an impact on milk collecting there. The mismatch between supply and demand has led to milk producers increasing their retail prices.
